Finally,theshipgroundsitselfnearaninhabitedtropicalislandandspringsaleak.WhileRollodonsadeepseadivingsuitandsubmergestopatchthehole,theblacknativescanoeoutandtakeBetsycaptive.WhenRolloemergesfromtheocean,thenativesarescaredoff,enablinghimtorescueBetsyandtakeherbacktotheship.Thenativesreturnandtrytoboardtheship.Afterafiercestruggle,RolloandBetsytrytoescapeinasmalldinghy.Itstartstosink,andthenativesswiftlyovertakethemintheircanoes.Justwhenallseemslost,anavysubmarinesurfacesrightunderneaththemandtheyaresaved.
